Track 13: Unnatural
Artist: Hypnotherapist
Originally Composed: 2011

Awww, look, babby's first Dubstep. And it's... well, hear for yourself. I got into Dubstep as a genre comparatively late (back in 2009/2010, I distinctly remember saying it was "the worst insult to music I've ever heard"), mostly as a result of having friends who were really into it at the time. It didn't take all that long for me to try my hand at doing a Dubstep track of my own in what was supposed to be a one off, and oh boy, is it kind of a stinker; lots of weak synths abound, drums that couldn't punch their way out of a wet paper bag, and a really lethargic, plodding pace that doesn't at all capture the energy I was trying to go for. To be impartial for a moment, though, it was very bold of me to try doing a more modern style of music in a program that has existed longer then the genre itself, and my attempts at creating the trademark screechy basslines the genre is known for using what I had is admirable if nothing else. It also might not 100% match up with the bass part like it's supposed to, but the cutting and looping on that guitar sample is actually fairly good. I'll never forget cruising along in a mate's car with a few friends, this song playing over the car stereo, with said friends really digging it for some reason and leaving me feeling like my shit was made of gold. Deary me. If nothing else, at least my scant flirtations with the genre following this were of a slightly better quality.
