Decon's commentary:

Nine years on, and I still think this is probably the best demonstration of what I tend to shoot for with the Master Controller Featuring alias, as well as the standout track of the first Christmas album in my opinion. Despite my relative inexperience with hip hop at the time, I reckon I nailed that lo-fi jazzy boom bap-y sort of style that Nujabes helped popularise with people outside the genre's die hard fanbase- including me, at the time. There's a very wistful sort of feeling to it that I think comes through very strong; not quite bittersweet and definitely not sad, but there's a vague sense of longing or nostalgia there. Simple as it is, I also like the custom trumpet melody I wrote; compliments the chords nicely. I wish I could remember where the hell I got that piano chord loop sample from, though- it was part of the stinger at the end a hip hop album I'd downloaded when I was just getting into the style, but I've long since lost said album and can't for the life of me remember what it was called or who made it.
