Decon's commentary:

This wasn't the first time I'd tried writing a song in a time signature other than 4/4- it might not even have been the first time I tried 6/8 specifically- but I feel it was the first time I did it whilst understanding what the hell I was doing (both generally and in terms of bodging irregular time-sigs in M2K's UI, which is always set up for 4/4 time with no option to change it). It also stands out as being one of my rare songs with a more typical uplifting/”happy” sort of sound to it; it's not an out-and-out joy explosion, but I was going for an mysterious-but-fun adventure-y vibe with the chords and melodies, heavily inspired by the dream-like and ethereal quality of the music from Namco's Rapid River- a personal favourite soundtrack of mine. There's a little of the whimsical vibe of Prop Cycle's music in there too- another Namco joint, unsurprisingly. Also got the percussion/drums sounding just right; top notch sample selection/editing/mixing, past me! Have a biscuit.
God I'd have done a better job with those note dynamics these days, though. This was a good few years before my dumb ass would figure out a cleaner and more controllable way to do that.
