about

Decon's commentary:

This is probably the most obvious choice I could've made- I've brought this piece up as an example of one of my favourite things I've done a shit-jillion times since I made it- but, well, sometimes the obvious choices are obvious for good reason. I set out to make a song that matched not just the quality, but the energy and vibe of the songs that noted producers in the J-Core/Nerdcore scene submitted to Bubble-B's “SPEEDKING PRODUCTIONS” compilations, and I like to think I at least got close. Is it derivative of a lot of the tunes from those compilations? Very, arguably by design, and to deny that would be dishonest- thankfully paying tribute to/”borrowing” elements of tracks are very much a part of that whole scene (and Tetsuto Yoshida's submissions to those albums are very, very derivative themselves). One of the things I really like about it is that it sounds authentically “oldskool” whilst also having a certain modern quality; a lot of the samples used are period appropriate for early hardcore rave music + the overall result of using MUSIC 2000 and samples predominantly loaded at 22hz help towards the former, whilst the overall progression and depth of the arrangement help towards the latter. I am also far more ecstatic about sampling a song from the Mega Drive's Motley-Crue-sponsored pinball title Crue Ball in it then I have any real right to be.
