about

Decon's commentary:

I've noted my absolute adoration for the synth fusion style that Shinji Hosoe, Ayako Saso, Takayuki Aihara, and later Yasuhisa Watanabe would cultivate and perfect across the various Street Fighter EX games a few times, and had worked very hard at replicating it for a good chunk of my musical career up to this point. Much like Snowfall in Shibuya above, this was the track where I felt I “perfected” my approach to that style, to the point that I've actually found it extremely difficult to get close to it since. From Dreams to Nightmares is a project very close to my heart, so there's definitely some bias here as well, but y'know. If there's one thing I like to think I'm good at when it comes to video game type stuff, it's big, dramatic, climactic battle music that's all sad or spooky/evil (or all three) in tone, and that comes through here nicely; I'd not actually settled on a specific foe or baddie this would play against for the project it's for, but it would likely be for the eventual climactic confrontation against a major recurring villain that plagues the player throughout- but not the Big Bad™ themselves. I'm particularly proud of the drum work here; I'd go on to do even better with intricate, manic, high tempo “drum kit” lines, but there's a strong hectic energy here that carries the track nicely. Going back to the original version of the song- which was quite strong for the time in which I wrote it- and comparing the entirely different approach in style is a hell of a trip, let me tell ya.
This might also be where my love affair with the Roland D-50's “Pressure Me Lead” patch began- it's the synth that plays the melody line over the chorus. God that's such a nice sounding synth patch; one of my all time favourites.
