about

Ok, I fully admit this one's a little bit of a cheat; this track was actually produced in 2014, as a potential intro track for a project that got Decon's commentary:shitcanned about a week after it was made. It's inclusion on 12 Tracks

2012 is the result of needing to swap out the original 8th track, as it was a remix of a song by someone who turned out to be Not Very Nice At All™, to put it mildly. The fact that this means the Mk. IV Alias character, Granpappy, is on the cover but doesn't have a piece on the album is something that has driven me up the wall for ages.
Anyway! The thing I remember the most about this piece was the absolute agony I went through over the timing of the unused Tidal Tempest loop sample and the breakbeat- specifically, getting them to line up without one feeling faster then the other. To my ear, the start of the Tidal Tempest sample still sounds too fast- dunno whether that's because of how I cut it or timed it, I'm not sure. Overall though, I like what I did here; it's not single material, but it was always meant to have a “beat tape” quality to it's production that I think comes across. The “64 Colours” the title was intended to refer to the total number of colours the Mega Drive could display at any one time, but doing a memory refresher for this I discovered that number was actually 61.
… I'm making no promises not to rename this in the future. I've renamed things before, I'll rename them again darnit!
