Track 15: Your Smile Never Fades (Not 'Til the End of Days)
Artist: Visor Jack vs. Decon Theed
Originally Composed: 2012

The early days of the House Of Dead Leaves project were a lot more ambitious in scope, involving multi-generational stories spanning a good couple of decades, and with each period or "phase" of the story having it's own distinct musical direction. With that said, I'm not sure if this song- which I think was supposed to be a theme song for the project as a whole- ever really fit in with any of those musical directions, although there is a reason for that which is noted below. This is another example of me attempting to do a modern music style in a much older program- this time something with a little twitch house/electro house thrown in- and the result isn't going to set the world on fire. It isn't outright awful, but it's kind of obvious I was hamstrung by many of the oldskool sounding synths (although I'm partially to blame for not trying harder to find solutions to that problem). The main 'heavy' portions of the song actually wound up sounding more like something out of a Garage track then anything else. Again, though, in the interest of being impartial, that I tried something so bold using such old software in the first place is fairly admirable, and some of the small touches like the stuttered chords in the 'heavy' section are pretty interesting conceptually.

Trivia Note: This biggest inspiration on the style/direction of the song came from- of all places- the Noisia remix of Bug Hunt. Otherwise known as "that song from Wreck-It-Ralph" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WI670f4QsY).
