Timepiece Trauma (PRESENT) [2012 ÷ AFTER-6290 Mix]

about

Something that is isn't very hard to pick up with these tracks is the fact that I tended to create levels (and thus, songs) based around my favourite zones (and thus, songs) from Sonic CD; Heaven Highway is a send up of Stardust Speedway, and this one, Timepiece Trauma, is a deliberate reference to Wacky Workbench, right down to the way the song is constructed. Overall this song is the better of the two older pieces, but there are some things that hurt it; the second main section is definitely let down by the fact that I didn't have a decent early 90s rave stab sample on hand, that bass guitar bit sounds a bit wonky in some places, and- arguably the biggest con of the song- I didn't have my trusty all-purpose Church Bell sample yet, and resorted to using a synth bell patch in Music 2000's library that, whilst not awful, is... very obviously not a real bell. On the upside, though, the bass and softsytnh arpeggios still sound quite good, and I still think I handled the drop/transition with the "you ain't gettin' out of this alive!" vocal very well- heck, just having that vocal in it makes it sound more Sonic CD-esque. That heavy metal guitar shredding sample that comes in during the second main section wasn't that bad either, it's just a shame it got a bit buried in the mix.

Much like the Heaven Highway track, there's a reference to another track from Sonic Gems Collection, that was originally produced for Super Mega Drive Fan: Mega-CD Super Music Vol. 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8dmxb_5EZQ
