Track 9: The Most Deadly Game [Danmaku Heaven Mix]
Artist: repeatedScales
Originally Composed: 2012
The third track off of 2012‘s Christmas album, The Most Deadly Game: Theme To Guidestuck (
103records.bandcamp.com/track/the-most-deadly-game-theme-of-guidestuck) was, as the title shows, supposed to be a theme for the Homestuck fan comic Guidestuck (
mspfanventures.com?s=932), and was entered into a music contest centred around the comic. It didn’t win unfortunately, but hey, you can’t win if you don’t try. The end of the original song morphed into this little fakebit outro, and I was so enamoured with the idea that almost immediately after finishing the original, I began work on this little fakebit “remix” of the song that expanded upon the idea, turning it into a kind of progressive-fakebit-chip-jam that fused samples from M2K’s library edited to sound like chip voices, and samples from various arcade and Mega Drive games- specifically, lots of vocal and SFX samples, although drum and rhythm samples are generally taken from outside sources too. It’s a bit weedly, and the rhythm is extremely repetitive, but for what it is, it ain’t too shabby; there’s some really nice cheery melodies in here, and the idea behind some of the more eclectic sampling was interesting.
Trivia Challenge: CAN YOU RECOGNISE ALL THE DIFFERENT SAMPLES FROM ARCADE AND MEGA DRIVE GAMES USED THROUGH THE TRACK?! You don’t win anything if you do, but hey, pat yourself on the back if you recognise anyway.
