This was an interesting style experiment, composed during the early days of the House Of Dead Leaves project; the idea was to create a small album of songs designed to sound like very early PC CD-Rom tunes for the titular game-within-the-game, making use of the quirks of some of M2K’s limitations to further emulate that feel- in this song in particular, the string sample used for one of the melody lines was cut very short, making it sound very roughly curt and clipped. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of unintended audio clipping and general roughness that wasn’t intended, and that kinda spoils the song a bit. The songs from this side project became repurposed as Gonkaka tracks extremely early on, as the side project was never completed, and the songs I did do for the project before it fell through weren’t quite up to par with what I wanted- this song in particular was one of the weakest, I felt, with somewhat bland composition and a pretty weak arrangement.

Trivia Note: It’s a Gonkaka song, so it’s got a reference in it- two, actually. The first is a reference to the adventure game The 7th Guest, which the game-within-the-game from The House Of Dead Leaves was supposed to be very similar to, and... well, if you can’t figure out the crap joke that is the second reference, I dunno what to tell you.
