Speaking of test songs; this was never originally supposed to see any real release at all, and for a little bit wasn’t even assigned to a proper alias. The song was actually put together as a sort of demo-meets-audio-scrapbook for a friend of mine, Terry Laundy, who was looking for a composer for a visual novel they were working on at the time. That’s why the style and composition jumps all over the shop- I was trying out different musical styles and asking Terry which one they felt best captured the feel of the world they were writing- and why the section between 1:02 and 1:19 is a straight up ripoff of the intro/chorus section of Mass Destruction from Persona 3 (the version of the song from the Reincarnation remix album, specifically). It isn’t an especially groundbreaking song and the sheer sporadic nature of it makes it a little disorienting, but I think it’s an interesting track from a conceptual perspective.

Trivia Note: Despite being just a demo song put together for a friend way back when, the requisite Gonkaka reference the song needed as soon as it was assigned to the alias is one of the most in depth ones I’ve ever done. “Meowaku Relations” is a pun on “Hatoful Boyfriend”, of course, but much like ‘Hatoful’ is a pun in of itself, ‘Meowaku’ is a pun/portmanteau of the word Meiwaku (kanji: 迷惑), and the English onomatopoeia for the sound a cat makes. Never let it be said I don’t sometimes put actual effort into these dang jokes.
