Track 5: Even Demons See the Value of Our Capitalist Culture
Artist: Damn That Rotter
Originally Composed: 2013, edited in 2014
Another song with a weird title I'm still very proud of, and one of the, like, two Damn That Rotter!!! songs I actually finished; of all the aliases I have, DTR!!! is the one I tend to start the most sketches/demos for, and then never finish. Heck, I've still got a load of unfinished DTR!!! demos laying around on my memory cards. This was originally created as the first track in a planned series of DTR!!! EPs in a similar vain to the Overdrive Hell series by Sampling Masters, but of course, as with many of my projects, the only other things done for it were an unfinished demo and a sketch I turned into an outro, but more on that later. I still have a lot of love for this record as, despite some rough patches, it's got some really great stuff going on in it; the entire 39 second intro I'm still really, really pleased with, the main bass hook is catchy, the melody and chord prog in the two breakdown sections are great counters for the hard driving edge of the rest of the record, and much like the intro (although much simpler), the ending works so much better then I could've planned. In fact, overall, I'm really happy with the manic and often utterly stupid samples across the track, as they're not only fun to listen to, but they're really fun to work with; I couldn't tell you how in the hell I worked that first half of the intro out, what with the layers of samples and editing going on, but I know it was an absolute joy to make.
Trivia Note: this song originally have a very different intro that sampled a segment from one of the early Game Grumps adverts- this one, specifically (
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoB543m9Zzw). In fact, it was the "Even demons know! Even demons know!" line that lead to the title of the song in the first place. I changed the original intro primarily because of my dissatisfaction with JonTron's behaviour during a certain incident, but overall, I feel the new intro the song has is actually a lot better; it's got more creativity to it.
