Track 1: Embu (For Mental Giants) [From "鋼足 4"]
Artist: Gonkaka
Originally Composed: 2011

This was originally composed for a project that never really got passed the concept stage; essentially, it was going to be a boss rush light gun type game, sort of like what The House Of The Dead could’ve been like if it was developed by Treasure instead of Sega AM1. I was clearly going for something that sounded like the HYPEST HYPE THAT EVER HYPED, but the samples- particularly the bass and the drums- don’t quite pack the punch that the arrangement is trying to sell, and that does let it down a patch; the airy synth pad still sounds kinda nice, though, and the bassline itself ain’t too shabby. Although the song wound up repurposed as a Gonkaka song (and set to go on many attempted-and-never-realised Gonkaka compilations as a result) partially because it had nowhere else to go, the decision wasn’t ENTIRELY hamfisted, as the song is very heavily inspired by the song from Tekken 4‘s short demo intro, Acid Timpani (www.youtube.com/watch?v=YprXIEk0jXE), composed by Yu Miyake. The latter half of the short song, specifically.

Trivia Note: Speaking of Tekken; by now, it’s common knowledge that the Japanese characters that have appeared alongside the logo since Day 1 stand for “Iron” and “Fist”. It’s also common knowledge that Gonkaka songs very often have deliberate puns on game franchises, consoles or whatever in their titles, because I like to think I’m funny. The characters in the name above (and in the next song) are the characters for “Steel” and “Foot”.
