Track 18: Democrat's Ace (Final Boss: Deepest Dark) [from "Blue Grandeur"]
Artist: Shinji Namiki
Originally Composed: 2012

Ahh, the Blue Grandeur project is one I'd really like to revist down the line. It was one of my first attempts at realising a full length Gonkaka album with a "faux soundtrack" angle, and was easily one of the most fleshed out. The idea was that Blue Grandeur was a Space Harrier type game (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzgrb-mjLaM), only set on a fantasy world that consisted of about 90% water, most landmasses being obviously artificial- kind of Sci Fi meets Sea Punk- and the plot involved the early days of the Eight Great Oceanic War, a farcical war where civilians and civil servants alike were encouraged to fight an oncoming battalion under the guise of a globe-spanning naval race. Similarly to Space Harrier, each of the playable characters (of which there were six of, I believe) had their own backing theme that would play over the levels, and would thus be fairly long and intricate, and each of the bosses would have their own much shorter, quicker-to-loop backing track. In the end, this is the only song that came of it, which is something of a shame, but that's the way it goes. This another one of my earlier songs I'm still fairly proud of, as everything is very tightly arranged, the samples for all the instruments all sound pretty decent, and for what was probably the first attempt at a mostly straight rock track (well, Synth Rock track), it's not half bad.
